About the course
The Soap School are opening the doors to it's Soap Boot Camp being held in in Huddersfield.
There is no prior experience required, just a willingness to experience the joy of creating your own soaps from scratch. Learn in a hands on environment with tutor support.
A full handout and recipe sheets are supplied as well as useful top tips plus free soapmaking resource information. And just wait until you check out our BONUS for you too!
There is no requirement for any previous experience but even experienced soapers will still learn plenty of new techniques and tricks on this 2 day course.
Starting with the fundamentals and simple natural soaps and then moving on to more advanced techniques such as layering and swirling soaps. You will have lots of fun in a hands on soap class, learning the skills of making traditional soaps using natural ingredients to a professional level.

If you would love to learn how to make beautiful natural moisturising soaps using traditional oils, exotic butters and essential oils, from scratch the traditional way, then this is the course for you! You will also learn how to use a wide range of herb and natural botanicals effectively in your soaps.
On completion of the hands on making section of the soap making workshop, you will begin the Labelling & Compliance workshop. We will work over the main elements of the information together and you will then be able to continue with the more extended course in leisure at your own home via our online learning site. There is no additional fee, we just want you to be able to go over the information as many times as you need and recap with the step by step videos and printouts to guide you.

Day 1 - Cold Process Soap Making Course
- Brief history and basic chemistry of soap making
- Necessary materials, ingredients and equipment
- Understanding the wonders of saponification (oils turning into soap)
- Safety aspects of working with sodium hydroxide (caustic soda)
- The most effective oils and butters to use in soap making
- Choosing additional oils or hero ingredients
- Understanding saponification values
- Superfatting & lye discounting

- How to formulate your own soap recipes
- Preventing rancidity and DOS
- Colouring soap naturally with herbs & spices
- Effective use of botanicals in soap
- Understanding the different levels of “trace”

- Alternative liquids in soap making and how to use them
- Using pure essential oils to fragrance your soap effectively

On day 1 you will learn to make:

Day 2 - Liquid Soap & Cream Soap Making Course
Start the day with the Soap School taking you through the skills and techniques to make your own.
Liquid soaps, in all their forms, outsell bar soaps 8:1 so this a real bonus in any soap making repertoire.
We will teach you all the differences between making solid bar soaps and natural liquid soaps. You will learn about the ingredients that will produce the best results and how you can utilise your own favourite additions into your recipes.
Whilst the cooking process of the liquid soaps takes a couple of hours we will have plenty of time to talk about the Luxurious Cream soaps.
Cream soaps are one of the most delicious and exciting soaps to create. Their natural soft silky texture and naturally pearlised appearance lends itself to several exclusive products and we will explore these including making a luxury shaving cream and delicious foaming shower smoothies

- Brief discussion about the basic chemistry and method of liquid soap making
- Safety aspects of working with sodium & potassium hydroxides (caustic soda & potash)
- The most effective oils and butters to use in liquid soap making
- Understanding the differences between the hydroxides and their Saponification values
- Supercreaming your cream soaps
- Lye calculators
- Colouring liquid soap
- Alternative colouring options for soap making
- Understanding the different “trace” in liquid soap compared to solid bar soaps
- Adding exfoliants and scrub ingredients for texture
- Working with powders and clays in soaps
